Tennis is widely popular among fans, prompting many amateurs to seek new details and information about their favorite sport.
In this report, we explore the reasons for choosing yellow as the color for tennis balls, and we discuss the unique roles of coaches in the game, which differ from the roles of coaches in other sports.
The Yellow Color of Tennis Balls
According to a report published by the French newspaper “Le Figaro,” tennis balls were initially made from wool, which gave them a white or black color. However, by the late 1970s, with the advent of color television and the regular broadcasting of tennis matches, white balls became a source of annoyance for viewers as they blended in with the white lines on the court.
As a result, to ensure better visibility for spectators, broadcasting bodies and the International Tennis Federation agreed in 1972 to use balls made from yellow felt, specifically fluorescent yellow, as it was determined to be the most visible color on television screens, according to research.
Since then, yellow balls have been used in all tournaments, although white balls can still be used in professional matches today.
Special Roles of Tennis Coaches
The profession of a tennis coach is one of the most intriguing in the sports world. Some players go without their coaches for long periods, while others frequently change theirs.
A report published by the American newspaper “The New York Times” mentioned that Romanian player Simona Halep experienced a panic attack during her recent loss to Chinese player Zheng Qinwen at the French Open.
After the match, Patrick Mouratoglou, Halep’s French coach, took to Instagram to take full responsibility for the loss, as well as for Halep’s poor performance in recent tournaments.
